Should my brother get an attorney?
Heya,
My brother’s ex-girlfriend just had a baby about 6 weeks ago. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out between the parents and they split. However, the mom is pushing the dad into giving her money and items but isn’t giving up equal rights to the child (e.g., the baby doesn’t leave moms sight and only is with dad about 2 hours a week). We just found out today that she left dad’s name blank on the birth certificate, so my question is, can we get an attorney and sue for our legal parental rights? I assume a paternity has to come into play here to prove that he is the father… any advice on how my family should proceed? I assume we are going to need to dish out the cash for a pretty good attorney, we just want equal rights, heck I think he’d even settle for 40% (60% would be hers).

Yes, he needs an attorney. He’ll probably also need a paternity test. If he has records of the money/things he gave her, he’ll want to have those as well.
mypsychoticself | Feb 05, 2010

"We"? "Our parental rights"? Your brother may need an attorney if he needs to assert his interests against the child’s mother. I do not know why his family needs an attorney, unless he is a minor. Only the mother and the father have specific rights and obligations regarding a child.

With a six-week old infant, it is not unreasonable for the mother to have a lot of access to the child, to the near exclusion of everyone else. The putative father has not yet established his legal relationship to the child and may initiate a voluntary paternity action. Since your state has child support guidelines, the amount of support should be computed fairly easily.

If there is no dispute about paternity, your brother and his child’s mother may approach the state’s child support agency without an attorney.
LovesTheConstitution | Feb 05, 2010

Retain a family law attorney. If you can’t find one, call your local county bar association and ask for a referral.

He can file to establish a parental relationship. He can ask for shared custody. He is not going to get 40/60 at this time, unless he can lactate.

He needs to ask a local attorney what timeshare is possible to get from the local judges given the child’s age. He also needs to find out what the state’s child support schedule is.
shoshidad | Feb 05, 2010

Your brother HAS to support his child financially and he isn’t going to be given "equal access" to his kid in exchange for money. And you should know that judge’s don’t give excessive visitation to the father of a newborn baby. That baby needs to be with his mama, especially if he is being breastfed, as bonding to his mother is so important at this stage of his life. At most, he probably will be given a couple of hours twice a week…at most…and your brother will be expected to pay at least a hundred dollars a week or more in child support, plus cover the cost of the child’s health insurance.

And as for joint custody, since he did not marry the mother of his child, he will probably find his rights are not the same as they would be if he had married her. And until the courts have determined paternity of the child, he has no right of visitation and she does not have to put his name on the birth certificate. She didn’t even have to let him be with her in the delivery room. So no, his rights haven’t been denied…he doesn’t have any until paternity is confirmed (for all you know, she slept with a dozen different men and your brother may not even be the father).

This is what your brother should do. He needs to hire a lawyer and go to court and ask for a paternity test to be done. If it is determined that he IS the father, then he should set up child support through the court system and ask for visitation. He will probably be given one or two hours on Saturday or Sunday and nothing more. He will not be given equal custody of his alleged child. If he had wanted that, he should have married the girl.

Why did they give Jesus a last name when those days they had no last name, it was location?
Jesus of Nazareth

So what were the 12 disciples last names, we are not given them a last name but we call Jesus Christ after King Constantine Christ who made their books along side the Jews as they voted some in, made up their own words and rejected others like Barabbas?

I wasn’t aware that anyone gave Jesus a last name. He is as you stated called Jesus of Nazareth, Jesus Christ, the Christ, the Christ Child, our Lord and Savior, but no one to my knowledge has ever given him a last name. Christ is not considered His last name. Learn something before spouting more of your ignorance.

The books that the Nicene Council did not include in the bible were manuscripts that could not be authenticated. They did not change the words of the manuscripts that were included.

Butterfly ???????? | Feb 05, 2010

"of Nazareth" is his location. Christ = messiah. Constantine did not have Christ in his name.

Lookout, The (2007)

IMDB rating: 7.40

Plot: An admired high school hockey player (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) with a bright future foolishly takes a drive in the night with his girl friend and two other friends with his headlights off with devastating results. The former athlete is left with a brain injury that prevents him from remembering many things for extended periods of time. To compensate, he keeps notes in a small notebook to aid him in remembering what he is to do. He also lives with a blind friend (Jeff Daniels) who aids him. Obviously, with the mental incapacitation, he is unable to have meaningful work. Thus he works as a night cleaning man in a bank. It is there he comes under the scrutiny of a gang planning to rob the bank. The leader (Matthew Goode) befriends him and gets him involved with a young woman (Isla Fisher) who further reels him in. After they get close and after reeling him in with his own failures, the bank plan unfolds. Confused but wanting to escape his current existence, he initially goes along with the scheme. After realizing he is being used, he attempts to stop the robbery, which of course immediately goes awry. Bruce McGill and Alberta Watson also co-star as the young man’s parents, who still search for the person that was there before the tragic crash.

Good idea for a story, yes or no. Contains gay material. Very long.?
It’s at an all-boys school.

It starts with this guy named Xavier, who is obsessed with a boy named Danton. He stalks him, takes his picture without him knowing, leaves a river of anonymous notes in his locker, and watches him through the window at home. Danton is thoroughly creeped out, but does not say anything until he is home alone one day and he notices things that point to someone having been in the house (all his drawers had been looked through but nothing taken, the window open, etc.)

He tells his brother who is the same age as him, and his brother tells their best friend, and the two of them decide they’ll find out who this guy is and stop him. They do find Xavier, beat him to a nub, and threaten his life.

The next day, the entire school knows about what happened. Immediately, some students are concerned for "poor Xavier" who was innocent and victimized, and some students are taken by Luke (Danton’s brother) and William’s ( their friend) action.

When Xavier does not stop talking about his obsession with Danton, some of the other boys kind of join him. This is where it loses some of it’s sexuality, because it becomes more of a principal than a human fixation. Danton represents innocence, sweetness, almost perfection, and the boys, after listening to Xavier, see that and so many other things that they become obsessed with as well for so many reasons, only some of them sexual.

When the obsession becomes stronger and Danton begins finding more notes in his locker, begins noticing people staring at him, he gets scared and more people join Luke and William in trying to stop the "freaks".

It slowly escalates, and finally, there’s an attempt by a few of the obsessives to kidnap Danton. This causes an uproar. The students are suddenly frantic. Those obsessed with Danton (or the idea of having/obtaining Danton) have to show up to his house, tap on the bathroom window while he’s taking showers, etc. Those who are hell-bent on protecting Danton follow him around, buy his lunch, and are all around on the lookout.

It gets extremely violent as they set out to destroy each other, to stop the other "side". Luke gets shot, not killed, just shot in the arm. There are stabbings. Rapes. Three selective deaths throughout the story. All associated with gang violence by the police.

There’s a theme of the adults in the story being very uninvolved.

There is a scene where Xavier is talking about how he never wanted it to be like this, how everybody is greedy and evil and all he ever did was love Danton.

Then there are Luke and William, who were concerned for Danton, and are baffled by those who are also "concerned" because the others seem more interested in hurting "freaks" like the ones obsessed with Danton.

It strays from actual Danton, but never /really/ does because everything is kind of motivated by him.

After Luke got shot, it all started to unravel. More than half the student body was directly involved in this, and the rest knew exactly what was going on. Kids were genuinely afraid to come to school because of all the violence and terror. Of the three deaths, one was of an obsessive, one was of a protector, and one was of this innocent guy who went to school and said the wrong thing.

It ends with the very disturbed Xavier bringing a gun, killing Danton, Luke, wounding William, killing one of the higher-ups of the obsessives, and then killing himself to "end the madness".

At the VERY end, the adults in the story, who had been extremely absent, are seemingly clueless to everything (including the deaths) and are asking the kids to sit down and do some schoolwork. It’s the first time that there’s a scene in the classroom.

I really like the idea. Please please write it and maybe I could read some of it? Please?

I think it could be very interesting, if you wrote it well enough to make it seem plausible. You would also have to do lots of planning with regard to structure, imagery, themes, characters and so on.

I would read it!

Good luck!
Lyster | Feb 08, 2010

not bad.
has a bit of a manga theme to it though,
particularly with it’s revolving mostly around school/home
and having a small group of friends.

the plot seems a little weak here and there, but other than that it looks like a decent story.

for some reason some story’s become so much better when visually depicted.
and so personally i think it would make a better graphic novel than a plain novel.
so maybe you might have some one help you visualize the charters in the story.

White spots on my teeth?
Lately i’ve been like obsessed with keeping my teeth white. i am 13 years old and currently have braces. I have had them since august 2008. As soon as my adult teeth grew in, they had white spots on them. I was just like born with them or something. They have faded a little over the years but they are still there and they bother me. I am dying to get my braces off and when i do i want my teeth to look really nice and white. Before i barely cared about my teeth and i would only brush them in the morning and some days use act mouthwash. But i always did brush my teeth daily. I dont drink a lot of coffee, only like once or twice a month threw a straw. I dont drink soda often, like the most once a week. most. I dont smoke of course, dont barely drink any juices either. Do you think i am going to have more white spots when i get my braces off? :/ Any advice to prevent/remove/fade them? Anything that i really shouldnt eat or drink? Suggestions? I appreciate everything. Thank you :)

thats natural, i have them too. you can get prescription toothpaste that whitens teeth from your dentist. other than that, dont drink soda and brush every time after you eat. and floss, which is hard with braces though.

What do you think of this - A beautiful bowl, honey and a single hair.. ?
the prophet mohammed, may all peace and blessings bestow upon him, and his companions, abu bakr, omar, othman, and ali, may allah s.w.t grant them peace, gathered in ali’s (a.s) house. in his house, hadhrat ali’s wife, fatima (a.s), the princess of the messenger a.s.w.s, served honey in a beautiful bowl, and when a bowl of honey was served, a single hair was found in that bowl. the prophet mohammed a.s.w.s then asked all of his friends to make a comparison to those three things: the beautiful bowl, honey and the single hair.

abu bakr r.a. said, "faith is more beautiful than this beautiful bowl, those who are faithful are sweeter than sweet honey, and to keep faith is more harder than to walk on this single hair".

omar r.a. said, "a kingdom is more beautiful than this beautiful bowl, a king is sweeter than sweet honey, and to rule fairly and with justice is harder than to walk on this single hair".

othman r.a. said, "knowledge is more beautiful than this beautiful bowl, knowledge seekers are sweeter than sweet honey, and to practice the knowledge gained is harder than to walk on this single hair".

ali r.a. said, "a guest is more beautiful than this beautiful bowl, welcoming the guest is sweeter than sweet honey, and to please the guest until he returns home is harder than to walk on this single hair".

fatima r.a said, "a muslimah is more beautiful than this beautiful bowl, a woman with a veil is sweeter than sweet honey, and to make the muslimah a man’s wife is harder than to walk on a single hair".

the prophet mohammed a.s.w.s said, "those who gain guidance from Allah s.w.t are more beautiful than this beautiful bowl, those who practice good deeds are sweeter than sweet honey, and practicing sincerely is harder than to walk on a single hair".

angel gabriel a.s said, "to uphold the pillars of religion is more beautiful than this beautiful bowl, to surrender himself, his property, and his time for his religion is sweeter than sweet honey, and to sustain this until his death is harder than to walk on a single hair".

Allah s.w.t, the almighty, said, "My Paradise is more beautiful than this beautiful bowl, the bliss in My Paradise is sweeter than sweet honey, and walking towards My Paradise is harder than to walk on a single hair."

What's your thoughts on spirits aka "ghosts" or poltergeists, etc. (kind of long)?
First of all, I am Christian…but I also tend to analyze everything that I see, hear and read to double-check everything. The topic of "ghosts" and "demons" and "poltergeists" and such seems quite debatable nowadays. So, I’m asking this question simply to get others’ thoughts and reasonings…not to start a theological debate or have other Christians tell me what I should or should not be doing.

My questions are quite a few in number, but also something I’ve thought a lot about since I’ve read various articles and saw various documentaries about different locations being "haunted" and such.

If people go to heaven or hell when they die, how is it that people see and hear things in old abandoned insane asylums, old houses where terrible things happen, the site of horrible accidents in buildings, armories, ships, etc. where terrible things happened. If people die and go to heaven or hell…who’s "haunting" the buildings that millions of people around the world seem to see/hear/encounter? They see "mists" and forms of a human being (usually that looks very similar to that of a former employee, family member, etc.), unexplainable glowing "orbs" that dart around the room as if lit up like a laser pointer. Some people report "cold spots" as if a being just walked through them or is in the presence of them. Some hear "knocking" or see other physically visible signs of a "confirmation" by the supposed entity when they ask if it’s x name or x person and if they died there, etc.

I believe in God. But to be fair in the argument…theoretically speaking, if there is no God, where do any ’spirits’ as well call them originate from? (don’t you fellow Christians dare quote that "The fool has said in his heart "There is no God" verse to me…i’m doing this to prove a point)

How are these ghosts/spirits/whatever visible sometimes but not in others, and only "felt" at other times as a cold, dark presence? How can they be a spirit in another realm and supposedly move objects around, cause liquids to leak out of walls randomly (usually resembling some sort of blood-like material red in color), etc.? Even a physical person can’t exactly pull that off in such an instant manner without having rigged an entire building to do that.

Yet rarely is there ever a case where the supposed "ghosts" physically hurt someone. I watched a video where one guy lived in a house where a little girl died and apparently the guy who killed her died, as well. The occupant of the house got live "cuts" on camera that would literally just appear and bleed on camera without any tricks, as if being attacked. That confuses me how things like this could happen, yet others don’t seem to do anything to people but "scare" them by pushing things, some supposedly "speak" audibly or by what many people called EVP, etc.

If there are "spirit realm rules" of sorts that prevents them from doing harm to humans…why are some more physically violent than others in these supposedly haunted locations?

If we die and are a spirit, then technically we aren’t dead. If there is no such thing as a spirit after we die (as some insist humans have no spirit at all)…what are these things that clearly occupy buildings and make noises, push and hit things to make noise, slam doors, etc. and are not visible?

If they are "demons" or "angels" as some say…that’s a spirit doing a physical thing in our realm, from their spirit realm. How is that possible? From a Christian perspective…angels are apparently "helpers" to strenghten us and guide us. Demons are apparently to try to cause and influence evil and pull us away from God (in a Christian viewpoint). I can’t imagine either of these "haunting" a building when their purpose would be for other things as basically at war with one another in their causes.

Some say "ghosts" are "people with unfinished business who died and are spiritually suffering over what physically happened to them. Doesn’t make much sense…if they died from their physical body, their spirit shouldn’t be "bound" by what happened in the body, correct? Plus, why would God theoretically let others go to heaven/hell and/or simply be ‘dead’ and leave a smaller number to drift around and "haunt" places? From a science perspective…if the body dies and there is no spirit…what’s going on in these issues? If the body dies and there is a spirit…then we’d have billions of people walking around "watching" everything. But every building isn’t said to be haunted, so that’s not very plausible…those events don’t happen everywhere.

So the options are: demons, angels or the spirits of those who died. Theoretically lost spirits with desires that will never be fulfilled, if they are spirits of those who died. This means they wouldn’t make it to heaven or hell or anywhere else than some house or building to reside in.

How does science approach this? It’s simple to say, "There’s a scientific explanation for it." But I don’t see any for the present-day "haunted" attractions that thousands of people visit yearly and report seeing/hearing/feeling things there. We could blame it on paranoia…but people have brought cameras with them and recorded live sounds, things being pushed around in buildings they had not been in before, groups of people freaking out (you can tell they’re not faking). Pictures taken in "haunted" houses, buildings, etc. occasionally capture a being-like form similar to that of a human, and sometimes a supposed face to go along with it. Other times it’s orbs or "auras" of light.
Do you think we’ll ever find out what these things are, unless of course, until we die ourselves? The term "poltergeist" by meaning is: "a ghost that announces its presence with rapping and the creation of disorder" and "The name of unexplained rapping
