For English 1 Honors, I have to write my own updated version of Romeo and Juliet. We only have to write one chapter introducing the characters and explaining their first meeting.
Why did they give Jesus a last name when those days they had no last name, it was location?
Jesus of Nazareth

So what were the 12 disciples last names, we are not given them a last name but we call Jesus Christ after King Constantine Christ who made their books along side the Jews as they voted some in, made up their own words and rejected others like Barabbas?

I wasn’t aware that anyone gave Jesus a last name. He is as you stated called Jesus of Nazareth, Jesus Christ, the Christ, the Christ Child, our Lord and Savior, but no one to my knowledge has ever given him a last name. Christ is not considered His last name. Learn something before spouting more of your ignorance.

Plot: An admired high school hockey player (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) with a bright future foolishly takes a drive in the night with his girl friend and two other friends with his headlights off with devastating results. The former athlete is left with a brain injury that prevents him from remembering many things for extended periods of time. To compensate, he keeps notes in a small notebook to aid him in remembering what he is to do. He also lives with a blind friend (Jeff Daniels) who aids him. Obviously, with the mental incapacitation, he is unable to have meaningful work. Thus he works as a night cleaning man in a bank. It is there he comes under the scrutiny of a gang planning to rob the bank. The leader (Matthew Goode) befriends him and gets him involved with a young woman (Isla Fisher) who further reels him in. After they get close and after reeling him in with his own failures, the bank plan unfolds. Confused but wanting to escape his current existence, he initially goes along with the scheme. After realizing he is being used, he attempts to stop the robbery, which of course immediately goes awry. Bruce McGill and Alberta Watson also co-star as the young man’s parents, who still search for the person that was there before the tragic crash.

Good idea for a story, yes or no. Contains gay material. Very long.?
It’s at an all-boys school.

It starts with this guy named Xavier, who is obsessed with a boy named Danton. He stalks him, takes his picture without him knowing, leaves a river of anonymous notes in his locker, and watches him through the window at home. Danton is thoroughly creeped out, but does not say anything until he is home alone one day and he notices things that point to someone having been in the house (all his drawers had been looked through but nothing taken, the window open, etc.)

He tells his brother who is the same age as him, and his brother tells their best friend, and the two of them decide they’ll find out who this guy is and stop him. They do find Xavier, beat him to a nub, and threaten his life.

The next day, the entire school knows about what happened. Immediately, some students are concerned for "poor Xavier" who was innocent and victimized, and some students are taken by Luke (Danton’s brother) and William’s ( their friend) action.

When Xavier does not stop talking about his obsession with Danton, some of the other boys kind of join him. This is where it loses some of it’s sexuality, because it becomes more of a principal than a human fixation. Danton represents innocence, sweetness, almost perfection, and the boys, after listening to Xavier, see that and so many other things that they become obsessed with as well for so many reasons, only some of them sexual.

When the obsession becomes stronger and Danton begins finding more notes in his locker, begins noticing people staring at him, he gets scared and more people join Luke and William in trying to stop the "freaks".

It slowly escalates, and finally, there’s an attempt by a few of the obsessives to kidnap Danton. This causes an uproar. The students are suddenly frantic. Those obsessed with Danton (or the idea of having/obtaining Danton) have to show up to his house, tap on the bathroom window while he’s taking showers, etc. Those who are hell-bent on protecting Danton follow him around, buy his lunch, and are all around on the lookout.

It gets extremely violent as they set out to destroy each other, to stop the other "side". Luke gets shot, not killed, just shot in the arm. There are stabbings. Rapes. Three selective deaths throughout the story. All associated with gang violence by the police.

There’s a theme of the adults in the story being very uninvolved.

There is a scene where Xavier is talking about how he never wanted it to be like this, how everybody is greedy and evil and all he ever did was love Danton.

Then there are Luke and William, who were concerned for Danton, and are baffled by those who are also "concerned" because the others seem more interested in hurting "freaks" like the ones obsessed with Danton.

It strays from actual Danton, but never /really/ does because everything is kind of motivated by him.

After Luke got shot, it all started to unravel. More than half the student body was directly involved in this, and the rest knew exactly what was going on. Kids were genuinely afraid to come to school because of all the violence and terror. Of the three deaths, one was of an obsessive, one was of a protector, and one was of this innocent guy who went to school and said the wrong thing.

It ends with the very disturbed Xavier bringing a gun, killing Danton, Luke, wounding William, killing one of the higher-ups of the obsessives, and then killing himself to "end the madness".

At the VERY end, the adults in the story, who had been extremely absent, are seemingly clueless to everything (including the deaths) and are asking the kids to sit down and do some schoolwork. It’s the first time that there’s a scene in the classroom.

I really like the idea. Please please write it and maybe I could read some of it? Please?

Sorry… i am not that patient… try to cut short ur posts from here on… it would be easier for u and for us…
Yesh16 | Feb 08, 2010

I think it could be very interesting, if you wrote it well enough to make it seem plausible. You would also have to do lots of planning with regard to structure, imagery, themes, characters and so on.

I would read it!

Good luck!
Lyster | Feb 08, 2010

 not bad.
has a bit of a manga theme to it though,
particularly with it’s revolving mostly around school/home
and having a small group of friends.

the plot seems a little weak here and there, but other than that it looks like a decent story.

for some reason some story’s become so much better when visually depicted.
and so personally i think it would make a better graphic novel than a plain novel.
so maybe you might have some one help you visualize the charters in the story.

Here's a Movie question for you, in the movie "Dragon, the Bruce Lee story", what ever happened to?
What ever happened to Jason Scott Lee? He did an excellent job, and I was suprised I never saw him in his own Martial Arts films. And haven’t seen him in anything since.

Actually Jason Scott Lee was never a martial artist. He’s got the part of Bruce Lee in "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" because he’s a good actor and has a fitting physique. I don’t think he’d ever intended to make a career out of the martial arts genre. Having no martial arts experience before the film, he prepared himself to play Bruce Lee training with Jerry Poteet, a Jeet Kune Do instructor who was once one of Bruce Lee’s students.

Jason Scott Lee’s latest film so far is: "Dance of the Dragon (2008)", an Asian drama.

Have you seen the movie "Joe versus the Volcano"?
This is a great movie but it always surprises me how few have seen it and how few of those liked it. Where are you on that one?

I saw it when it first came out, it was too silly, and the premise that he was going to kill himself because he was dying of a painful disease just seemed a little too icky for a comedy.

 sdvwallingford | May 25, 2006

Seen it. Didn’t dig it at all.
zippythejessi | May 25, 2006

It was great! The first Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan romance movie.
Monica G | May 25, 2006

Yes I have seen it. It was not one of Tom Hanks best efforts, he is a much better and deeper actor than the movie portrayed him to be.
It was a fluffy kind of thing that didn’t do well, but thankfully he came on back and blew us away with some of the best films I have ever seen.
lockerridge | May 25, 2006

Sorry, i thought i had a brain cloud when that was available for viewing. If you like that, Tom Hank and Blondie McDoodle did about ten other lousy movies together.
judgemartiniz | May 25, 2006

I haven’t seen it in a good while, but it was pretty good. It’s so strange, most people wouldn’t like it, but it’s not bad.
Disco Stu | May 25, 2006

I have seen it more than once, and yes I like that movie.

Not really a candidate for any awards, but not a bad way to kill 2 hours either.

I’ve seen it. The only thing I remember about it is Tom Hanks and I think John Candy starred. It’s been a looooong time since I’ve seen it…
da_humbla | May 25, 2006

It came out right after "When Harry Met Sally" (with Meg Ryan) and "Big" with Tom Hanks. So everyone expected this to be a magical pairing of these two. But it wasn’t very "magical" for me. I think everyone’s expectations were so high. Perhaps that’s why when they made "Sleepless in Seattle" together a few years later, it was such a surprise hit.
justcuriouslikegeorge | May 25, 2006

I thought it was an okay movie.
tom hanks in it?
ray_long69 | May 25, 2006

I saw it - it was good, but you had to be in the right mood to see it.

If only Tom Hanks had those steamer trunks in "Cast Away"…

Joe versus the Volcano was released in 1990 and I saw it then because I was a fan of Tom Hanks. The movie was a huge flop. I liked that he learned that he truly wanted to live and that life was important to him.
soplaw2001 | May 25, 2006

I saw that about a million years ago but loved it! I love Abe Vigoda as the chief of the Waponi-woo’s. Or the scene where Tom Hanks says the fluorescent lights are sucking the life out of him… who doesn’t feel like that once in a while???
purrpletoad | May 25, 2006

I love that movie but I have to admit I am the only one in our crowd that does. They just have no taste that’s all!:)
kitkat | May 25, 2006

I have it in my DVD collection. It was a good movie. I think a lot of people might not get the movie because it has metaphysical undertones to it.
Beginning with this investigation, Roger is assigned a new partner Sergeant Martin Riggs, who has been suicidal ever since his wife Victoria “Vicky” Lynn Riggs died in a car crash in 1984. Riggs and Murtaugh’s investigation of Amanda’s death reveals that she was murdered. Upon hearing of this, Michael tells Murtaugh that he would like for whoever is behind Amanda’s murder to end up dead, like Amanda. Riggs and Murtaugh’s investigation continues and it makes them the targets of Shadow Company, a group of former Vietnam War era mercenaries who now bring heroin into the Los Angeles County region. Shadow Company’s leader, General Peter McAllister, and his right hand man, Mr. Joshua, want Riggs and Murtaugh dead, no matter what the cost.
